Setting
Preferences |
Before you begin to work
with ImageMapper, you should check the Preferences for proper image processing.
In many cases, the default settings will work well. Once your workflow is
established and standardized, the Preferences should not need to be changed
often.
There are two types of preferences:
color preferences, in the top portion of the menu, and output preferences
in the bottom portion. Color preferences control how ImageMapper converts
pictures from your digital camera's color space to the output space you are
targeting. Output preferences control the output file format and (if you are
creating JPEGs) allow you to balance file size vs. JPEG quality.

To check or adjust the
Preferences:
- Select ImageMapper
> Preferences...
- In the Default
input pop-up menu, select a color space that represents the type
of color that your camera produces. For many users, this will be sRGB;
some cameras may also allow you to create files in Adobe RGB (1998).
- Some images may
have a source profile embedded in them. If you want to have Image
Mapper use the embedded profile for picture processing instead of
a profile that you designate, select the Use Embedded Profile to
convert images check box.
- Select a Look from
the Profile look pop-up menu.
Tip:
The Look profile
selected here is only used in cases where you are generating a new
custom profile for your camera, not when you are simply processing
pictures from a standard or previously-made profile (Remap Pictures...).
- Select an output
format. To keep the format the same as what your camera produced (TIFF
or JPEG), select Same as input. To output only TIFFs, select
TIFF; to output only JPEGs, select JPEG.
Note:
ImageMapper does
not support the use of compressed TIFF files. Unsupported
file types include TIFF files with LZW, ZIP, JPEG or RLE compression.
ImageMapper also does not support black and white images.
- If your output
file will be JPEG, adjust the JPEG Quality slider to balance
file size vs. JPEG quality.
Tip:
Are you submitting
images for publication? Check to see if the publisher requires images
to conform to the DISC (Digital Image Submission Criteria) standard.
The DISC standard requires JPEG images to be set to "JPEG Quality
8," which is ImageMapper's default setting. Some camera applications
refer to JPEG Quality 8 as "JPEG Fine."
- Click OK.
